What is your mission in the world?
• saving cetaceans?
• aiding the homeless?
• serving victims of natural disasters?
• freeing victims of oppression?
• preserving old-grown forests?
• feeding hungry people?
• teaching peace?
Let’s face it: there is much to be done. We all have to take our
part, do what we came here to do. Maybe it’s working the front
lines in the Peace Corps or in a soup kitchen. Maybe it's living
atop a tree for a year or two. Maybe it’s working with kids in the
neighborhood. Teaching or preaching, talking to citizens on the
street, polling, handing out leaflets. Cycling instead of driving,
recycling instead of tossing. Simplifying. Maybe, for some, it’s
just stuffing a few dollars into an envelope when someone asks.
My mission—and, because I’m one of the lucky ones, my job—is
communication. I seek to use the written word to aid others in
communicating their passion to the world. To engage readers.
To spur action. To sell ideas.
I write direct mail for nonprofits. I write speeches for leaders of
foundations. I write articles for NGOs.
I write. It’s a small thing. It’s what I can do.
If you've got a Big Idea, it's important that it be given voice. I can
help. I can add a few good words to your campaign.
Why? Because this is the way we save the world.
